Next Level Of Human Centered Design

I found Fast Company's article, 'Microsoft's Radical Bet On A New Type Of Design Thinking' to be very insightful. As a designer it provided me a new perspective toward my design approach, demonstrating how great design is often inspired by extreme design constraints. In this case the article exemplifies how intuitive products were initially developed for people with disabilities.

It highlights how the first typewriter was developed so that the inventors blind lover could write letter more legibly. The challenges this inventor faced inspired him to create a technology that was more intuitive and universal, demonstrating how this extreme constant ultimately benefited everyone.

I was reminded of  my friends company, Smart Stones, and how they are pioneering the use of gestures as a new form of mobile communication for people with disabilities. By addressing this challenge they are essentially introducing a new way to interface with technology, that does away with a keyboard, making communication much more streamline and intuitive for everyone.

Needless to say I benefited from reading this article and wanted to share it with you. Please share and if you're compelled to show your support please subscribe to my newsletter.
